The Copper Canyon detachment fault, western flank of the Black Mountains, Death Valley, CA. View looking west. The fault dips generally northward about 20 degrees and separates salmon-weathering Pliocene strata of the Copper Canyon Formation in the hanging wall from green Proterozoic gneiss in the footwall. The 20 degree slope in the background to the left of the cliff face is the denuded top of the footwall. Personnel from left to right: Peter Vrolijk, Julia Morgan, and Trenton Cladouhos. Photo by Darrel Cowan, February 1996.
