Isotope Geochemistry

The isotope geochemistry group has an active program of investigation into the source, history and magmatic process of ocean-island basalts. Current work includes projects in Hawaii, Iceland, and the Canary Islands. We have also worked in other tectonic settings such as continental collision in Tibet and mid-ocean ridge basalt from the N. Gorda Ridge and continental margin subduction zones such as Cascades, and Alaska and southern Mexico.

In collaboration with the School of Oceanography, we also investigate the hydrothermal systems associated with magmatism at ocean ridges at ODP site 1256 in the Guatamala Basin and the Juan de Fuca ridge.
