Meeting

Date
Friday and Saturday, October 17-18 from 9am to 5pm

Location
Henderson Hall, Applied Physics Lab (APL)
University of Washington

Registration

  • Registration fee: TBD
  • In past years the registration fee has been in the range of $20-50 to cover the evening social event and meeting refreshments. Students may expect a cost break.

Register here. Registration questions? Email Kristin Poinar kpoinar@ u.washington.edu.

Format

We anticipate that the meeting will follow the format of previous years. As usual for NWG, we have no requirements for advance abstracts and titles; the first agenda item on Friday morning will be to work out a schedule.

The time available for each speaker will depend on the number who want to speak. However, due to the anticipated large number of participants, we ask that you be prepared to give your presentation in about 15 minutes maximum including discussion.

We plan to have projection facilities for slides, overheads and PowerPoint presentations.  If you will want any additional equipment, please let us know what you would like as soon as possible, so we will have the best chance of getting what you need.

Icebreaker

A pizza dinner will be hosted at Charlie Raymond's house on Friday evening. Directions to the dinner will be provided at the meeting. Dinner is provided through the registration fee.

Directions

The APL can be easily reached from either north or south bound I-5. Exit I-5 at the NE 45th St exit and head East. Continuing east on NE 45th St for 7 blocks, you will come to an intersection with Brooklyn Ave NE. Turning right on to Brooklyn, continue south for 5 blocks to NE 40th Street. Turning right onto NE 40th St, the APL is two blocks west at 1013 NE 40th St.

Parking

  • Friday: the closest option for on-campus parking is the Central Plaza Garage under Red Square ($11/day, plan to arrive early). Enter the parking complex via the campus entrance at 15th Ave at 41st St. Walk west on 40th St. for 3 blocks to get to the east entrance of the APL.
Off campus parking may be available as well around Henderson Hall. Be aware of parking fee machines.

  • Saturday: UW has a home football game vs Oregon State on Saturday. Park early to ensure you receive a parking space! It is possible to park in the W-10 lot next to Henderson Hall (not available Friday). We must know in advance if you plan to park here to give notice to the UW parking department for event parking ($5/day), otherwise parking is $20/day for special use parking in the same lot. Day parking permits for the Henderson W-10 lot may be purchased ($5/day) at the UW campus guard houses at campus entrances (the closest is located at 41st and 15th). Email Jessica Lundin (jdrees@ u.washington.edu) if you have questions or plan to park on Saturday at Henderson Hall.
