GRL Special Issue

NEW DEADLINE for GRL Special Section on "Sun-Earth Connection Events in the ISTP Era"

From: "Nicola J. Fox"

A few months ago it was announced that there would be a special section of Geophysical Research Letters devoted to "Sun-Earth Connection Events in the ISTP Era". The initial deadline was set at Sept 15, 1997. However, since then it has become apparent that owing to the large number of International Meetings during the summer months, this deadline was not feasible. It has, therefore, been decided to move the deadline to October 15, 1997. It must be stressed that there will be no further extension to this deadline so please ensure that your manuscripts reach GRL before this date.

We would be most grateful if you could email either myself, Mauricio Peredo or Barbara Thompson if you are planning to submit to this edition so that we can have an accurate idea as to the number of papers to expect - email addresses are given at the end of this message.

For those of you who missed the earlier announcement about this GRL Special Issue, details which were included in the first bulletin are given below.

The ejection of magnetic clouds from the Sun and their interaction with the terrestrial environment has received significant attention recently, particularly due to their possible impact on spacecraft performance and geospace. Emphasis will be on the Coronal Mass Ejection/Magnetic Cloud event of January 6-11, 1997. However, contributions involving other ISTP events including the May 28-30, 1996 and April 7-11, 1997 events are also welcome.

Because GRL's mission is the publication of timely, forefront science, special issues should provide a set of synthesis papers that that can best illuminate the significance of the events to the general community. Papers may treat any of the many facets of the Sun-Earth connection, from the solar origin of the events, to the their tracking and propagation through the interplanetary medium, their interaction with the Earth's magnetosphere and ionosphere and the associated impacts to geospace. Because space allocated to special issues is limited, GRL's criterion of "timely & broad geophysical interest" will be use in selection of papers. Questions or comments concerning special issues should be addressed to the editor-in-chief, or editor.

A NEW FEATURE of GRL is that electronic movies, either mpeg or quicktime, (size should not exceed 5 Mbytes) can be submitted with an article and referenced to the electronic version as part of GRL-Online. For more details either contact the editor or see the electronic submission section on the world wide web at http://www.agu.org/grl/helpdesk.html

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Papers must be received by October 15, 1997 to be considered for this special section.
