Salaverry is located approximately 110 km north of Chimbote. No damage was reported at Salaverry. It had been closed prior to the tsunami because of high wind waves. The normal tidal variation at Salaverry is approximately 1.1 m. At around 9:20 a.m. the tide gauge went off scale so that the maximum height of the wave in the port is not known.
