There are three main areas surrounding the Santa River, located
about 5 Km north of Coishco. Puerto Santa is the blue area on the upper
part of the photo.
North of Puerto Santa is Rio Santa (Santa River), and north of Rio Santa is
Campo (or Playa) Santa.
The fatalities at the Rio Santa estuary were to four people who were
collecting wood. Local residents collect the wood washed down by the
river for use as fuel. Two of the fatalities were children, ages 7 and
11. Damages to this area also included 85 people that lost their
agricultural products, and 54 people injured. The agricultural area
inundated by the tsunami covered about 80 Hectares (0.8 square Km). Two
other fatalities occured to people looking for gold at the shoreline of
Campo Santa.
