Structural Damages & Casualties




According to the Institute for National Civil Defense in Peru, the casualties were as follows:


Some of the fatalities were to line fishermen who were caught on the rocks by the tsunamis. Additional fatalities occurred in the area of Santa, north of Coishco, where four people were gathering wood for fuel from the mouth of Rio Santa and two people were looking for gold at the beach of Campo Santa. In the town of Coishco a 30 meter long brick wall was destroyed and several houses were damaged by the tsunami impact.

This movie is about 1 minute and 30 seconds long and it uses 5.5 MB. The video shows a 150 meter wall that was destroyed at a fish food company at Coishco. The wall was situated about 110 meters from the beach. The movie also shows some personal damages and one of the fatalities, a fisherman that was out in the ocean fishing, despite the warnings posted by the Port officials. This movie was adapted from a TV news broadcast put on the air by one of the national TV stations in Peru shortly after the tsunami.
