Lampon is situated in similar topographical setting to Pancer. Built on a sand bar and fronted by a tidal flat, a small river runs behind Lampon, sandwiching it between the Indian Ocean and the river channel. The tsunami attacked from the seaside on the front and from the river on the back, effectively blocking all direct evacuation routes to higher ground. A maximum horizontal inundation distance from the shoreline of at least 115 meters was estimated by survey team members. The minimum runup of 1.3 meters above mean sea level was measured on the backside (landward side) of the village. The maximum runup of 9.3 m above mean sea level was measured on a steep coastal hillside near the village.
