Week 5: Fluid dynamics
Week 5: Fluid dynamics
Overview:-
We consider the basic driving gradients in radiation that drive the atmospheric and ocean circulations, (that will be the foundation of the lab this week), then back off to discuss how fluid motions can be represented physically. We’ll talk about glacier flow, then the vertical structure of pressure and temperature in the atmosphere and ocean.
Physical principles:-
Diffusion, Continuity of mass, Moving vs. stationary perspectives on fluid motion, surface and body forces, the pressure gradient force.
