Rajekwesi, East Java


Rajekwesi (pronounced ra-jak-wes-e and also spelled Rajegwesi) is located on a pocket beach about 7 kilometers west of Pancer. The tsunami took the lives of 33 people in Rajekwesi, with 14 additional people reported missing . Extensive beach erosion and structural damage occurred in Rajekwesi. Nearly all of the beach-front homes in Rajekwesi were destroyed by the tsunami, with many homes razed to their foundations. 100 structures were either partially or totally destroyed by the tsunami.

Runup measured between 4.2 and 13.9 meters above mean sea level. The highest runup measurement was recorded on a steep hillside near a river's mouth at the east side of the village.
